AMD RX 9070/RX 9070 XT Day-1 Pricing Rundown

AMD’s RX 9070 series launch is a success, but demand is HUGE

It’s finally time. AMD has launched its Radeon RX 9070 series of graphics cards, and demand is high. As always, we will be looking at the day 1 pricing of AMD’s new RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT series graphics cards. This time, we found MSRP GPU stock at all the UK’s major GPU retailers. However, demand was high enough to see this stock sell out fast.

MSRP stock was available at all retailers, but demand was too high to keep them in stock

AMD launched its Radeon RX 9070 series with more supply than all other GPU launches this year combined. Even so, AMD’s large supply of graphics cards quickly vanished into the baskets of gamers. This was especially true for GPUs with MSRP, or near-MSRP pricing. I guess that’s what happens when you launch a GPU with a strong value proposition when competing Nvidia GPUs are all out-of-stock.

We checked with all retailers as soon as AMD’s RX 9070 series launched. All of the retailers we checked had GPUs at AMD’s MSRP price. As we have said before, AMD is supporting retailers to ensure that some GPUs are sold at MSRP. However, this means that GPUs will be sold at higher prices when AMD’s support ends.

Below is a list of Radeon RX 9070 prices we found on Scan, Overclockers UK, CCL, and Ebuyer. Note that MSRP models will see their prices increase once the stock of MSRP/AMD-supported cards is sold. Overall, CCL has the highest RX 9070 prices, with the only exception being their limited number of MSRP cards.

Radeon RX 9070 XT Pricing

Like the RX 9070 non-XT, pricing for the XT models can vary greatly on a per-retailer basis. Some retailers had MSRP prices for some models, while others did not. That said, CCL Computers consistently has the highest prices for non-MSRP GPUs. They are charging £799.99 for Powercolor’s baseline RX 9070 XT. For the ASRock RX 9070 XT Taichi, they are charging £100 more than Overclockers UK.

This launch was a huge success for AMD, but it highlights the GPU market’s biggest problems

PC enthusiasts are excited about the launch of AMD’s RX 9070 series. With their RX 9070 XT, AMD offered gamers a strong value proposition and a feature set that can compete with Nvidia’s RTX series products. With retail stock of Nvidia graphics cards being scarce, there is enormous pent-up demand for new graphics cards. AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 series capitalised on this demand.

While some retailers still have RX 9000 series GPUs in stock, lower-cost models have all sold out. While more RX 9000 series inventory is coming, it may be a while before these GPUs are easily purchasable online at near-MSRP prices. Clearly, there is a lot of demand for these new GPUs, and it will take time for retail supply to stabilise.

Today is a huge success for AMD. They have released new graphics cards, and gamers have gobbled them up. That said, buying an MSRP GPU remains a challenge, and AMD needs to make sure they get more inventory into retailers as soon as possible. Demand is there, AMD and its partners needs to capitalise on it.
