AMD rumoured to have less than 5,000 Radeon VII Graphics Cards

At CES 2019 AMD revealed their Radeon VII graphics card, making them the first company to launch a 7nm gaming graphics card. During their Radeon VII reveal, the company revealed a price tag of $699 and a release date of February 7th, but rumour has it that the Radeon VII will be a smaller launch than expected. 

TweakTown has reported that AMD will launch with “less than 5,000” Radeon VII graphics card, with sources claiming that AMD will lose money on every graphics card sold. The Radeon VII was originally designed as the Radeon Instinct MI50, a graphics chip that wasn’t expected to receive a consumer release due to the graphics card’s costly 4-module HBM2 memory configuration and its large 7nm die size. 

It has also been reported that there will be no custom variants of AMD’s Radeon VII graphics card, though Tweaktown states that this has not been confirmed by sources at any of AMD’s AIB partners.

AMD’s Lisa Su has stated that PC gamers will “hear more about Navi in 2019” (more info here), leading many to believe that AMD’s next-generation graphics architecture will release in the second half of this year, potentially making the Radeon VII 7nm Vega a short-lived entry into Radeon’s product stack.
