AMD’s latest Radeon Software Adrenalin Q2 2018 driver works with both iGPU and dGPU products

When AMD released their new Radeon Software Adrenalin Q2 2018 driver, the company wasn’t 100% clear when it came to what products this new driver supported, listing only AMD’s Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G as supported products in their driver release notes.

Likewise, AMD’s dedicated Radeon graphics hardware did not have an Adrenalin Q2 2018 driver to download from AMD’s website, instead listing their Radeon Software 18.4.1 beta driver as their latest driver offering on the dedicated GPU side. This lack of clarity spawned a lot of confusion around this new graphics driver, was it a dedicated APU driver or has AMD finally merged with iGPU and dGPU driver stacks?

Thankfully, AMD’s James Prior has released a tweet to confirm that their Radeon Software Adrenalin Q2 2018 driver as unified both driver offerings. Something which we have now validated on our Intel-based test system using AMD’s RX Vega 56 graphics card. Below is James Prior’s full comment regarding Radeon’s latest Adrenalin release.

As discussed on the recent @anandtech AMA, there is a new unified driver for @AMDRyzen with Radeon Vega graphics that supports both the processor graphics or @Radeon discrete graphics. One driver to rule them all!

AMD’s Radeon driver have merged, which should mean that all future Radeon Software released should support both integrated and dedicated graphics cards, which means that upcoming day-1 game-optimised driver released will be coming to AMD’s latest Ryzen APUs, offering their users optimal game performance.

Update – 15/06/18 – An AMD representative has confirmed that AMD’s Ryzen+Vega APUs will receive driver updates every three months with WHQL releases of Radeon Software. Not quite the “unified” driver stack that we wanted.
