AMD’s RX 9070 XT launch was Radeon’s most successful launch ever – Lisa Su confirms
Lisa Su confirms that the RX 9070 XT’s week 1 sales were 10x better than prior Radeon GPU generations
In an interview with Tony Yu, ASUS China’s general manager on Bilibili (YouTube version below), AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su, discussed the success of their Radeon RX 9070 XT launch. During the interview, Lisa Su confirmed that AMD’s RX 9070 XT launch has been Radeon’s most successful to date. Week 1 sales far outstrip other GPU launches, with AMD generation 10x more sales.
Lisa Su has confirmed that AMD is increasing its GPU manufacturing to meet demand. This will allow more gamers to access AMD’s newest graphics cards.
During the interview, Lisa Su also discussed AMD’s other products, including Strix Halo, AMD’s high-end APU, X3D CPUs, and Ryzen AI products.
Of course everyone likes a very, very high-end GPU, but not so many people can access it. So, RX 9070 XT has been a fantastic success. Actually, it’s the number 1 selling GPU for all AMD Radeon generations for first-week sales by far. 10x more than previous generations. We like to see people happy, and people are very happy with the 9070 XT.
[Interviewer: Maybe fans will say, “Come on, give us more.”]
We are going to, no problem. We’re very excited about it. We are increasing manufacturing so we can give more gamers access.
– AMD CEO, Lisa Su
During the interview, AMD talked a lot about their Radeon RX 9070 XT. However, AMD’s lower-end RX 9070 (non-XT) was not mentioned. This makes sense, as AMD’s RX 9070 XT was in greater supply at launch, and it is clearly the product that AMD is focusing on.
When discussing the future of AMD CPUs/GPUs, Lisa So stated that they will continue to optimise their technology on silicon, packaging, system, and software levels. Silicon scaling is getting more difficult, which means that chipmakers need to work harder to advance PC performance. Expect these areas to be where AMD’s focus is moving forward.
