Apple enables support for external Radeon GPUs using Thunderbolt 3
Using an external GPU enclosure through Thunderbolt 3, users of compatible Mac hardware will be able to accelerate Metal, OpenGL and OpenCL workloads, use the external GPU as a hub for additional monitors and use the eGPU enclosure as a charger for your MacBook Pro. Â
Apple has provided a list of supported eGPU enclosures and graphics cards, though users will need to be careful and ensure that their eGPU chassis can power both its internal GPU and a connected MacBook Pro. Below is a list of supported graphics hardware.Â
– AMD Radeon RX 570
– AMD Radeon RX 580
– AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100
– AMD RX Vega 56
– AMD RX Vega 64
– AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Air
– AMD Radeon pro WX 9100
