ASUS China push their ROG Astral RTX 5090 D to 3.4GHz

ASUS China breaks world record GPU scores with their ROG Astral RTX 5090 D

Tony Yu, ASUS China’s General Manager, has pushed the limits of Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU silicon by overclocking their ROG Astral RTX 5090 D while using liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling. This has allowed ASUS China to achieve world-record GPU performance levels with GPU core speeds of 3.4 GHz and 34 Gbps GDDR7 memory speeds. These overclocking exploits were showcased on YouTube.

By modifying their ROG Astral RTX 5090 D, Tony Yu allowed the graphics card to consume up to 1,000 watts of power. When combined with LN2 cooling, this allowed the GPU to achieve levels of performance that are impossible with unmodded RTX 50 series graphics cards. Nvidia’s RTX 5090D is a China-oriented RTX 5090 variant with limited performance in specific workloads (mainly AI).

The highest overclock that ASUS’ Tony Yu achieved was 3.390 MHz. That is 581 MHz higher than ASUS’ stock GPU speeds. With 34 Gbps memory speeds, memory performance is boosted by 21% over a stock RTX 5090 GPU. Overall, ASUS’ overclock netted them a 12-25% performance boost over a standard RTX 5090 GPU.

With their overclock, ASUS achieved a 12% uplift in 3DMARK Fire Strike Ultra. An 18% boost in 3DMARK Time Spy Extreme performance was also noted. 3DMARK Port Royal saw a larger performance boost of almost 25%. Note that the benchmarks that benefit most from memory performance saw the largest performance increases.
