ASUS starts investigation into “stuttering” in ROG Laptops
ASUS opens an investigation into stuttering issues on ROG gaming laptops
Following reports of a firmware bug in many of ASUS’ ROG gaming laptops, ASUS has confirmed that they have opened an official investigation into these “stuttering” issues. These issues were reported by Zephkek on GitHub, who stated that some ROG laptops would stutter during basic tasks, such as watching YouTube videos. Mouse cursors reportedly froze, audio crackles on Discord, and systems would freeze. Driver updates, fresh OS installs, and other potential fixes were attempted. This leads Zephkek to allege that the problem is with ASUS’ firmware.
Now that ASUS has opened an investigation into these issues, we hope that these performance concerns can be addressed soon. Are these performance issues due to faulty hardware? Does ASUS have problems with its firmware or BIOS? Below is ASUS/ROG’s statement on this matter.

Based on Zephkek’s investigation, ASUS’ has a firmware issue that affects much of its 2021-2024 ROG laptop lineup. This implies that a laptop firmware update should be able to address these performance issues. If that is the case, ROG laptop users will be able to address these performance issues without needing new hardware.
