BOE plans to mass produce 8K 120Hz monitors this year

BOE showcases 31.5-inch 8K 120Hz LCD monitor at SID Display Week

At SID Display Week (DW 2025), BOE (via Balance-) showcased a 31.5-inch 8K LCD monitor that’s capable of operating at 120Hz. This new monitor is expected to enter mass production later this year, with availability in 2026 being likely.

This native 8K LCD screen can also operate at 4K 240Hz. It is likely that this screen uses “Dual Mode” technology to support this higher refresh rate. Currently, it is unknown if this screen supports a similar 1440p mode. After all, 8K is a 3x resolution increase over 1440p on each axis.

BOE of China is, these days, the largest panel maker in the world. On its booth was a very good looking 31.5’ 8K LCD monitor panel. It supports up to 120Hz refresh rate in 8K or can run at 240Hz in 4K. The firm told us that it expects some mass production later this year.

8K Association

Earlier this year, AMD demonstrated 8K 120Hz gaming on a custom Samsung monitor using HDMI 2.1. This feat confirms that modern GPUs are capable of operating at 8K 120Hz. It also highlights the potential of today’s gaming hardware when used with AI upscaling technologies.

While we do not expect 8K gaming to become popular anytime soon, higher screen resolutions are useful for productivity tasks. For gamers, this screen’s 4K 240Hz mode seems more attractive than its 8K 120Hz mode. That said, gaming at 8K is possible on modern GPUs, albeit with the help of upscaling. That said, more demanding titles are unlikely to run well at 8K, even with upscaling and top-of-the-line GPU hardware.
