HP to have FreeSync in “its entire [AMD] consumer laptop line-up”

HP will have FreeSync in “its entire [AMD] consumer laptop line-up” in the second half of this year, meaning that soon all new HP Laptops that are using AMD’s Carrizo APUs will be compatible with the technology.

The first laptop from HP that will support FreeSync will be HP’s upcoming Envy 15z Carrizo based laptop will also support FreeSync through HDMI as well as through it’s own display. The new version of the laptop will be using a faster AMD SoC and will feature a higher resolution display than the previous model.

HP anticipates having AMD FreeSync-enabled HP Envy 15z laptops available in the first half of 2016, and plans to enable AMD FreeSync support across its entire consumer laptop line-up powered by 6th Generation AMD A-Series processors in the second half of the year.

Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of the Computing and Graphics Business Group at AMD had this to say.

We are pleased to continue strengthening our relationship with HP through the latest HP ProBook design wins,

We’ve seen positive consumer and commercial response to our 6th Generation A-Series processors and the recent announcements by HP, along with AMD technology adoption by global companies and the popularity of AMD systems during the holiday season, help confirm the strength of our product.

FreeSync is already available in a few laptops on the market, like the Lenovo Y700, but seeing such wide adoption from HP is a great sign for AMD. AMD has stated that the demand for their new Carrizo APUs have been growing in the laptop market, though Intel still remain dominant in this market segment.
