HTC teases new Vive headset with “New Year’s Resolution” Tweet
With the release of Microsoft’s Windows 10’s Mixed Reality Platform, several high-resolution VR headsets hit the market, with Samsung’s Oddessy MR headset offering a screen resolution of 1440×1600 per eye, which is much higher than the HTC Vive’s resolution of 1080×1200 per eye. Will HTC release a higher resolution HTC Vive 1.5 at CES?
Valve is also set to introduce SteamVR Tracking 2.0 into the market in 2018, a technology that is designed to decrease the cost of the HTC Vive’s base stations significantly, potentially allowing HTC to release lower-cost Vive headsets or will enable the manufacturer to invest in other upgrades without increasing the headset’s price.Â
Given the HTC Vive’s high pricing, we hope that the company plans to reduce the cost of their existing Vive headset significantly, as the Oculus Rift currently offers a much better value proposition.Â
 Â
One other thing that is likely to be showcased is Valve’s new “Knuckles” controller, which is designed to sense whether or not a user is gripping the controller with each finger and allows for detailed hand movements to be simulated in a VR environment.Â
Come back to OC3D on the 8th to see exactly what HTC has in store.Â
