Right now, not much is known about HTC’s upcoming headset, aside from a few design changes. For starters, Vive Cosmos is designed to offer a combined resolution of 2880×1700 and utilise “real RGB displays” instead of AMOLED screens. This represents an 88% increase in screen resolution over the original Vive. Other changes include a 40% boost in lens clarity over the original HTC Vive, a move which will help get the most out of the headset’s new high-resolution screens. Â
At this time, the price of HTC’s Vive Cosmos headset is unknown, though the headset’s use of an inside-out tracking system is sure to make the headset more affordable than the HTC Vive Pro. Valve’s SteamVR Lighthouse system may be incredibly accurate, but it’s too expensive for the majority of consumers.Â
HTC has also claimed that their new headset is “future-proof”, supporting “modular customisations” which can be used to improve the headset after launch.
