Intel releases first ever driver update for Kaby Lake-G’s Vega graphics chip
Intel releases first ever driver update for Kaby Lake-G’s Vega graphics chip
Intel’s latest driver update is called 18.6.1, seemingly matching to AMD’s Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.6.1 driver, offering with it lots of software fixes, game optimisations and a long list of other changes.Â
Sadly, Intel’s release notes for their Radeon RX Vega M 18.6.1 driver lack any real detail aside from OS/Product support, we can expect the driver to offer everything that Radeon Software 18.6.1 provides, which includes up to a 10% performance boost in Warhammer: Vermintide II. Release notes for AMD’s Radeon Software 18.6.1 driver are available here.Â
Â
With Kaby Lake-G, Intel is failing to deliver important details in their driver release notes and are unable to match the frequency of AMD’s Radeon Software release schedule, taking away key advantages like Day-0 driver support for upcoming games.Â
We hope that Intel can continue to up their driver game, both with their Radeon and in-house graphics solutions, as Intel will need to be ready to take on AMD and Nvidia in the software space as well on a hardware level if they want to deliver high-end gaming graphics solutions in the future.Â
Strangely, AMD’s latest Radeon Software release for their Raven Ridge (Ryzen+Vega) APUs is Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.5.1, making Intel’s most recent driver release, version 18.6.2, more advanced than AMD’s own Mobile Vega offerings. Â
