Intel will not release ARC “Celestial” Xe3P Gaming GPUs – Leaker claims

It looks like Intel has no plans to release ARC Xe3P-based Discrete Gaming GPUs

According to the leaker Jaykihn, Intel has cancelled its plans for an ARC Xe3P-based discrete gaming GPU, and they did so “long ago”. This will leave Intel’s ARC “Battlemage” B580 without a successor based on their newer “Celestial” architecture. However, this does not mean that Intel ARC is dead.

There’s more to ARC than discrete GPUs. While Intel appears to have put ARC discrete GPUs on the back burner, that doesn’t mean that we won’t see Xe3P-based graphics products. Intel has already unveiled its Xe3P-based Crescent Island datacenter GPU. Additionally, Xe3-based graphics chips are already available with Intel’s Panther Lake series CPUs.

No “gaming GPUs”, but ARC will be available elsewhere

Intel’s ARC journey isn’t over, but Intel’s priority has shifted. Intel appears to be focusing on integrated graphics and datacenter graphics solutions. Datacenter graphics are higher-margin, and Intel needs strong integrated graphics solutions to make its processors more appealing. Discrete gaming GPUs are a distinct segment, and releasing a product in this space isn’t guaranteed to be successful.

While we may not see a Celestial-based gaming successor to Battlemage, Intel is still working on its ARC graphics architecture. This means that Intel could return to the discrete GPU market in time. For now, Intel’s focus is on other areas.

Intel may return to the discrete GPU market with their Xe4 “Druid” architecture in 2028. That said, this is far from confirmed. If Intel can improve its ARC graphics architecture enough, large discrete gaming GPUs could become more viable for Intel. A large Xe4 datacenter/AI GPU called “Jaguar Shores” is reportedly in the works, confirming that large Xe4-based products are possible.

Intel’s ARC story isn’t over, but don’t expect new discrete gaming GPUs anytime soon

Intel’s ARC “Battlemage” B580 GPU is a solid product, but it looks like it won’t be getting a successor anytime soon. As much as we would love to see more ARC gaming products, the discrete GPU market is challenging, and AMD and Nvidia are strong competitors. I’d love to see more Intel products competing in this space, but Intel clearly thinks that focusing on other areas is its best move, at least right now.

Intel’s Xe3 graphics in Panther Lake are compelling and showcase Intel’s growing strength within the GPU market. Hopefully, Intel will be able to take its ARC graphics architecture to even greater heights, making new discrete-level GPUs even more compelling.
