Intel’s next-generation Battlemage desktop GPUs to launch this year – Report claims

Intel is reportedly planning to launch next-generation “Battlemage” desktop GPUs before the end of 2024

Based on reports from a Intel X ASUS event in China, as reported on by Videocardz, Intel may be planning to launch their first “Battlemage” desktop GPUs in 2024. These CPUs reportedly feature “significant performance improvements” over Intel’s current-generation GPUs. However, that should be expected from all next-generation products.

Earlier this year, Intel gave us a glimpse of their Xe2 graphics architecture. This is the architecture behind Intel’s Lunar Lake integrated graphics and upcoming “Battlemage” discrete graphics solutions. With this new architecture, Intel has aimed to deliver higher levels of hardware utilisation, improved workloads distribution, and decreases to software overhead. With these changes, and more, Intel should deliver large generation performance improvements with their Xe2 based Battlemage GPUs.

At Computex, Intel showcases generational performance gains of around 50% with their Xe2 based Lunar Lake integrated GPU (iGPU). With Battlemage, larger performance gains could be possible. This assumes that Intel plans to make a larger CPU with more CUs and a higher power target. Regardless, the launch of Xe2 will be an exciting one for the GPU market. If Intel can deliver strong performance and solid pricing, AMD and Nvidia have have a lot to worry about.
