Let’s have a look at ASUS’ RTX 50 series GPUs – STRIX, TUF Gaming, and Prime
ASUS showcases its RTX 50 series GPUs at CES 2025
Before we get started, I’ll say this. Yes, we have already written about ASUS’ new RTX 5090/80 ROG ASTRAL graphics card. We got a little bit excited about it, so it got its own separate article. Now that we have that out of our system, we can look at ASUS’ other RTX 50 series GPUs.
First of all, we love the fact that ASUS made design changes to all of their heatsink designs with this generation. ASUS’ RTX 50 series GPUs have no recycled heatsink designs. Everything is new, and everything is fresh. Nobody will be replacing their GPU with a nigh-identical replacement.
Below, we have ASUS’ ROG Strix RTX 5070 Ti. Note that ASUS has only revealed ROG Strix RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 models. There will be no ROG Strix RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 graphics cards. ASUS’ ROG ASTRAL series is replacing the ROG Strix series in the high-end market.
Like all RTX 50 series GPUs, ASUS’ ROG Strix models are powered by a single 12V-2×6 power connector. Note that the GPU has a BIOS switch, which allows users to select the GPU’s performance or quiet BIOS profiles.
Meet the RTX 50 TUF Gaming Series
Unlike the ROG Strix, the TUF Gaming range will extend across the RTX 50 series. This means that we will see RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 models.
Like ASUS’ ROG ASTRAL series GPUs, ASUS’ new TUF Gaming models will be using a phase-change thermal compound and feature a protective PCB coating. These changes will boost the cooling performance of the TUF Gaming series and increase its longevity. For this GPU’s RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models, the TUF Gaming series will feature a vapour chamber-based cooling solution.
Below, we can see that the TUF Gaming series also features a BIOS switch and both quiet and performance profiles. Furthermore, we can see that it is also powered by a 12V-2×6 power connector.
ASUS PRIME
Last, we have ASUS’ PRIME series, which features an entirely new aesthetic. At launch, this series will be available in the form of Nvidia RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 models. There will be no Prime RTX 5090 graphics card, at least not yet.
Like the ASTRAL and TUF Gaming series’, ASUS’ RTX 50 PRIME GPUs will feature phase-change thermal compound. Additionally, it is worth noting that only the RTX 5080 model for this GPU will feature a vapour chamber-based cooling solution. All three models will be 2.5 PCIe slots thick. This allows all three models to be compatible with Nvidia’s “SFF-Ready” standards.
Like ASUS’ other RTX 50 series GPU models, a BIOS switch is available that allows users to Switch between the GPU’s quiet and performance modes. This GPU is also powered by a 12V-2×6 power connector. To our knowledge, no RTX 50 series graphics cards are powered by 8-pin PCIe power connectors. However, lower-end RTX 50 series GPUs (RTX 5060 series) may use 8-pin power connectors.
