LG is reportedly in talks to use Samsung QD-OLED panels for new gaming monitors

LG is reportedly making 27-inch OLED gaming monitors with Samsung QD-OLED screens

According to multiple reports via FlatPanelsHD, LG reportedly plans to create new 27-inch 240Hz OLED monitors using Samsung’s QD-OLED display panels. This means it will use OLED screens manufactured by their direct competitor, rather than one of LG Display’s OLED panels.

DLG Display currently manufactures 27-inch 4K WOLED and RGB Stripe OLED monitors. This makes their use of Samsung QD-OLED displays all the more strange. To our knowledge, LG has never used a Samsung QD-OLED panel for a monitor.

What’s worth noting is that LG Electronics (LG) and LG Display are distinct companies. Both operate under the same parent company, but are operated separately. This means that LG Electronics is not obligated to purchase all of its displays from LG Displays, though that is preferable.

According to multiple sources in the component industry on April 6, LG Electronics is currently in discussions with Samsung Display to source 27-inch 240Hz UHD (4K) QD-OLED panels for monitors. Although nothing has been finalized yet, supply could begin as early as the fourth quarter of this year,

ZDNet Report (Translated)

LG’s use of Samsung displays could be seen as a move to strengthen Korean manufacturing and avoid using competing Chinese displays. In the past, Samsung has used LG W-OLED panels for some of its TVs. That said, Samsung has not used LG W-OLED screens for any of its monitors.

LG Electronics plans to launch new gaming monitor models in the second half of the year using Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels. Multiple sizes, including 27-inch and 32-inch variants, are under consideration

The Elec

Samsung and LG are fierce rivals in the display market. Regardless, both are huge companies with many separate arms. Their product arms clearly see benefits in using each other’s display technologies. For example, LG’s newest Gram laptops use Samsung RGB OLED displays. While it does seem a little strange, I does make sense. After all, the display market is huge, and Samsung/LG’s displays have their own advantages and disadvantages.
