LG shows off the world’s largest 8K OLED TV ahead of CES

4K is only now starting to become mainstream, with basic 4K TV becoming affordable, a variety of 4K content from Ultra-HD Blu-Rays, streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix alongside a host of gaming content from PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC. Even so, display makers are continuing to push forward, not only introducing higher resolution panels but also increased screen sizes. 

LG, one of the world’s biggest display manufacturers, has shown off their largest, highest resolution OLED panel to date, offering an 8K resolution (4320 x 7680) and a display size of 88 inches. Previously LG’s largest OLED screen was a 77-inch 4K panel, which means that LG has not only been able to manufacture a larger screen but also includes a pixel count that is four times larger.

LG is set to become the world’s only provider of large OLED displays, with their chief rival Samsung focusing on their competing QLED (Quantum Dot) panel type. Both OLED and QLED have their advantages and disadvantages, though Samsung is already set to showcase their MicroLED tech at CES, a technology that could replace both OLED and QLED display types.
