MSI refutes false RTX 5090 “fire hazard” recall rumours
MSI rubbishes RTX 5090 “Fire hazard” recall claims
MSI has published an official statement following reports of a potential RTX 5090 “product recall” over “fire hazard” claims. A purchaser of an MSI RTX 5090 SUPRIM graphics card from the retailer “UW GAME SPECIALIST” in the Netherlands, claiming that their GPU shipment was delayed due to this recall. KitGuru reported on the news of this email. Since then, their article has been heavily edited.
UW GAME SPECIALIST now calls this email a “miscommunication.” However, reporting a “fire hazard” recall for a â¬3,000+ GPU is a serious matter, and not what we would call a simple “miscommunication.” These were specific claims about specific products.
MSI’s statement on this matter is below. The company calls reports of a recall “absolutely false,” and stated that their “products present no such risks,” regarding the retailers “fire hazard” claims. MSI also noted that this retailer isn’t an MSI partner and doesn’t work with them directly.
We had the unpleasant surprise of learning on 03/06/2025, through an article on Kitguru website Link, that a Dutch retailerâUW GAME SPECIALISTâallegedly informed a customer that they were unable to fulfill their order because 5 GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC from our brand had supposedly been recalled due to a fire hazard.
With this statement, we would like to make it clear that these allegations are absolutely false, that no recall program is in progress, and that our products present no such risk.
Furthermore, we would like to specify that this retailer is not one of MSI’s partners, and we do not work with them.
We reserve the right to initiate legal proceedings against those responsible for these highly defamatory allegations, which harm our brand’s reputation, as well as against anyone contributing to their dissemination.
We recommend you to purchase from one of our authorized resellers as listed below.
- Megekko
- Azerty
- Alternate NL
- Alternate BE
- SHS
- CPS
- PDC
- Bol
- Coolblue
- Copaco
– MSI
MSI has stated that they “reserve the right to initiate legal proceedings” over these defamatory claims. Furthermore, the company has listed a variety of authorised MSI retailers in the Netherlands. Clearly, MSI doesn’t want anyone purchasing its GPUs from “UW GAME SPECIALIST”.
