MSI showcases “Next Gen” GPU cooling tech with new RTX 5090 model
MSI showcases its next-gen cooling tech at Computex 2026
MSI’s engineers have been busy. At Computex 2026, MSI unveiled its “next-gen” GPU cooling technology. With new materials, new fans, and improved integration, MSI has developed a new RTX 5090 Gaming Trio model featuring a significantly enhanced cooling solution.

This new design paints a picture of what Nvidia’s next-generation GPUs could look like, with Nvidia’s “GeForce RTX” logo being prominently displayed at MSI’s “Next-Gen” stand.
Metal fans
MSI has developed new “Ultra-Thin Metal Fan Blades” to replace the plastic blades of traditional GPU fans. With a metal structure, MSI’s new fans are more rigid, thinner, and have less airflow resistance.
These metal fans deform less while spinning, and are more stable during their operation. This is especially true at high fan speeds. This improves fan efficiency and may even improve acoustics.
Next up, we have some improved materials and technologies. MSI has invested in advanced “spiral-groove” heatpipes that increase internal contact area to boost heatpipe efficiency. This increased efficiency allows more heat to be dissipated from your GPU, lowering GPU temperatures.
Next, we have diamond-composite thermal pads. Diamonds are excellent thermal conductors, and using them in composite thermal pads can boost heat transfer and lower GPU memory thermals. Next, MSI has created a diamond-copper composite baseplate that delivers similar thermal benefits by enhancing heat transfer between a GPU core and its attached heatsink.
All of these technologies work together to create MSI’s RTX 5090 32G Gaming TRIO Next-Gen GPU. At its core, this is a standard RTX 5090 graphics card, though it runs much cooler thanks to MSI’s new heatsink. All of MSI’s optimisations add up to deliver reduced thermals compared to MSI’s standard Gaming TRIO series GPUs.
Sadly, MSI did not reveal how much cooler this new GPU model is compared with their standard model. Regardless, it is good to see MSI’s engineers flex their design muscles. It will be interesting to see what they will deliver when true “next-gen” GPUs arrive.
