Nvidia confirms “missing ROPS” issue on 0.5% of RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 Ti GPUs
Nvidia accidentally ships nerfed RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards
Nvidia has officially confirmed that a small number of RTX 5090, RTX 5090 D, and RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards have been shipping with “fewer ROP than specified.” This confirms our reporting yesterday on this RTX “missing ROPS” issue, with Nvidia stating that the problem has an “average graphical impact [of] 4%.”
Nvidia has confirmed that owners of affected graphics cards can return them to their manufacturer and receive a replacement. Furthermore, Nvidia has confirmed that this “production anomaly” has been “corrected.” Users can check if their RTX 50 series GPU has missing ROPS using tools like GPU-Z.
Nvidia’s statement below confirms that a “production anomaly” caused this issue. It cannot be fixed with a BIOS update or GPU driver update. This seemingly confirms that the issue was with Nvidia’s silicon binning process. Simply put, you can’t fix bad silicon with software.
We have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified. The average graphical performance impact is 4%, with no impact on AI and Compute workloads. Affected consumers can contact the board manufacturer for a replacement. The production anomaly has been corrected.

The good news today is that RTX 50-series GPU users with “missing ROPS” can get their GPUs replaced for free by their manufacturer. However, Nvidia’s statement also confirms that this issue also impacts their newly released RTX 5070 Ti GPUs. Nvidia released this GPU on the 20th, and they have already confirmed that a certain number of them have “missing ROPS”.
Were Nvidia aware of this issue before yesterday’s news? If so, why wasn’t the RTX 5070 Ti’s launch delayed? Did Nvidia launch their RTX 5070 Ti with a known issue?
