Nvidia is rumoured to be releasing a GTX 1070 Ti?

 
Rumours have been circulating that Nvidia has plans to release a GTX 1070 Ti GPU, with an image which shows the name “GTX 1070 Ti Strix O8G” as part of a system’s specifications sheet. 
 
The main source for this is a website called mydrivers, who has reported that this GPU could be Nvidia’s response to AMD’s RX Vega 56, offering performance that sits somewhere between Nvidia’s existing GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. No specifications are known for this GPU, though
 
No specifications are known for this GPU, though mydrivers suggests that the GPU could use a total of 2304 CUDA Cores, which sits between the GTX 1070’s 1920 cores and the GTX 1080’s 2560 cores. Please note that this is an estimate from mydrivers that is not based on any leaked information, it is a simple guess. 
 
From the “O8G” part of the GPU name, we can assume that this hypothetical card uses 8GB of memory, though it is anyone’s guess whether or not this GPU will utilise GDDR5 or GDDR5X memory.

To say the lease this rumour isn’t based on much, look at the image above and you know just as much as anyone else. An image that shows what appears to be a GTX 1070 Ti Strix GPU with 8GB of VRAM. 

This rumour must be taken with a huge grain of salt as it not only shows what is allegedly a new GP104 model that is releasing one year after GP104’s initial launch but a GPU that is so close to the GTX 1080 that is could undermine its future sales. 

Earlier this year Nvidia did release updated versions of their GTX 1060 (6GB) and 1080 GPUs, offering upgrades to each GPU’s memory clock speeds to improve GPU performance. Perhaps Nvidia wants to do a similar thing with the GTX 1070, though at this time the evidence for such a GPU (or a GTX 1070 Ti) is flimsy at best.
