Nvidia reportedly cuts RTX 5060 production
Memory shortages are forcing Nvidia to focus on profitability, and the RTX 5060 may be its latest victim
Last week, Nvidia confirmed that its supply of RTX 50 series GPUs is “constrained”. Simply put, Nvidia can’t get enough GDDR7 memory to meet demand, and that is causing problems. Now, RTX 5060 production has reportedly been greatly lowered. While the GPU isn’t cancelled, Nvidia are focusing its resources on more profitable GPUs.
This follows reports that Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 Ti are heavily supply-constrained. Add on Nvidia’s rumoured RTX 5060 8GB supply cut, and we have a clear trend. VRAM-inefficient GPUs are having their production cut, and the more expensive GPUs of each VRAM amount are being prioritised.
With 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, Nvidia would make an RTX 5060 or an RTX 5060 Ti (8GB) GPU. The RTX 5060 Ti is more expensive and profitable, so that product is being prioritised. As for the RTX 5060 Ti (16GB) and RTX 5070 Ti, that 16GB of VRAM is best used on Nvidia’s larger and more profitable RTX 5080. With GDDR7 VRAM being limited, Nvidia wants to make the best use of its available memory. That means allocating that memory to its higher-end products.

Lowered GPU production is bad news for gamers
If Moore’s Law is Dead’s report is true, GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, and RTX 5070 Ti “will soon be unobtanium”. RTX 5060 supply is expected to be lowered for “the next six months”. Note that Nvidia’s RTX 5050 8GB will remain available, as it uses GDDR6 memory. This memory cannot be used with other RTX 50-series GPUs.
Note that Nvidia will reportedly “re-examine” things in Q4 2026. This means that this year could be a bad year for PC gamers. A supply shortfall of graphics cards could lead to higher prices. Add on higher SSD and DRAM pricing, and building a new PC in 2026 will be much more expensive than building an identical system in mid-2025.
