Nvidia to downgrade China’s RTX 5090D with 24GB of memory

Nvidia’s new RTX 5090D graphics cards may have 25% less memory than existing models

Following reports that Nvidia’s 32GB RTX 5090D graphics card has been banned in China, an Nvidia partner has reportedly claimed that the GPU will return in July with lower specifications. Manli has reportedly claimed that Nvidia’s RTX 5090D will return as a 24GB graphics card.

This news was first reported by @harukaze5719 on Twitter/X. It is claimed that this new GPU model will retain the same name and pricing as its predecessor. Currently, it is unknown if Nvidia’s new RTX 5090D has been downgraded in any other ways.

By using 24GB of GDDR7 memory, Nvidia’s new D-series graphics card will likely feature a 384-bit memory bus. This will give this new graphics card 25% less memory bandwidth than its predecessor. Currently, it is unknown if this GPU will also feature a lowered CUDA core count.

Once again, Nvidia are developing China-specific GPU SKUs to work around US export controls. This may invite tighter US sanctions in the future, as this has happened several times before.

Manli expects Nvidia’s new RTX 5090 D to become available in July. If it features fewer CUDA cores and 24GB of memory, this GPU would look a lot like a potential RTX 5080 Ti.
