Nvidia unreleases its GeForce 595.59 “Game Ready” driver over fan control issues

Nvidia stops downloads of its newest “Game Ready” due to fan control issues

Nvidia has confirmed that it has temporarily removed downloads for its GeForce “Game Ready” and “Studio” 595.59 WHQL drivers. This removal is due to the discovery of a bug that is affecting some of the driver’s users. Users are reporting a loss of GPU fan control, with some users claiming that their GPU fans stopped spinning.

This is hugely embarrassing for Nvidia. They have not only released a buggy “Game Ready” driver, but also a bad “Studio” driver. Nvidia releases new “Studio” drivers less often than “Game Ready” drivers. Nvidia’s Studio drivers undergo additional testing to ensure that there are no performance regressions in any productivity applications.

Those who have downloaded the driver have been asked to roll back to Nvidia’s 591.86 WHQL driver. GeForce Expereince users can do this using the “three dots” in the “drivers” tab.

February 26th, 11 am PT Update: We have discovered a bug in the Game Ready and Studio 595.59 WHQL drivers and have removed the downloads temporarily while our team investigates. For users who have already installed the driver, or are experiencing issues with fan control, please roll back to 591.86 WHQL.

Nvidia has not stated when they plan to re-release its GeForce 595.59 drivers. This is bad timing for Nvidia, as this new driver is “Game Ready” for Resident Evil Requiem, which will be released on PC tomorrow.
