Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti SUPER is WEIRD

Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti SUPER has a HUGE memory upgrade, but its other specifications are weird

Through the leaker Kopite7kimi, the specifications of Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5070 Ti SUPER graphics card have leaked, and they are weird. Thanks to its use of 3GB GDDR7 memory chips, the graphics card is reportedly launching with 24GB of GDDR7 memory. That gives this GPU a 50% increase in memory capacity over its non-SUPER counterpart. However, little has changed elsewhere on this graphics card.

With an alleged CUDA core count of 8960, Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 Ti SUPER have the same GPU core configuration. However, the GPU’s SUPER variant will reportedly feature higher clock speeds, thanks to its 350W TGP. With 50 watts of additional power to play with, Nvidia can boost its clock speeds to deliver higher performance levels. This makes Nvidia’s 5070 Ti SUPER a weird graphics card, as Nvidia SUPER series GPUs tend to feature more CUDA cores than their non-SUPER variants.

Memory-wise, aside from its upgrade to 3GB memory chips, not much has changed. Both GPUs appear to use 28 Gbps GDDR7 memory over a 256-bit memory bus. That means that both GPUs will have the same amount of memory bandwidth available.

All in all, Nvidia’s 5070 Ti SUPER GPU is basically an overclocked 5070 Ti with 3GB GDDR7 memory chips instead of 2GB memory chips. This gives the GPU more raw computational performance and 8GB of additional VRAM capacity. This extra memory will make Nvidia’s new GPU more attractive to creators/creatives, and make Nvidia’s new GPUs more future-proof.

Another benefit for Nvidia is that its identical core design to its non-SUPER counterpart means that this GPU should not be much more expensive to produce than a standard RTX 5070. After all, the only difference is its new memory chips. If existing coolers can support Nvidia’s higher TGPs, GPU manufacturers will only need to change the memory configurations of their GPUs. Simples!
