Nvidia’s RTX 5090 reportedly features a MAJOR clock speed boost
Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will reportedly feature a base clock speed of around 2.9GHz
Based on a new report from the leaker panzerlied, Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5090 will feature a major clock speed boost over its predecessor. Previously, this same leaker reported that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will feature 28GB of 28Gbps GDDR7 memory, giving the GPU a 55% bandwidth upgrade over the RTX 4090.
Now, it has been claimed that Nvidia’s next-generation flagship will have a base clock speed of “almost 2.9GHz”. That means that the RTX 5090 is base speeds are clocked over 600 MHz higher than its predecessor. In fact, this base clock speed is higher than the RTX 4090’s boost clock speed.
If this report is true, it is probable that the RTX 5090 will have boost speeds of over 3GHz. This suggests that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will be much faster than its predecessor in a per SM basis. This is great news for Nvidia, as this means that the RTX 5090 should benefit from higher SM counts and higher per-SM GPU performance.

So far, Nvidia’s RTX 50 series leaks suggest that their RTX 5090 graphics card will be a major upgrade over today’s RTX 5090. The move to GDDR7 memory alone will provide users with a huge bandwidth boost. Add on higher clock speeds and more SMs, and Nvidia are onto a winner with their RTX 5090. That said, it remains to be seen how Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will be priced. Will Nvidia maintain their current pricing, or push for even higher-flagship pricing?
