PC Gamers sabotage RTX 3080 eBay listings as scalpers attempt quick sales

Nvidia’s RTX 3080 stocks sold out in moments, and it didn’t take long for retailers to follow suit across the US, UK and Europe. Unfortunately, a lot of RTX 3080 graphics cards didn’t ship to gamers, falling instead into the hands of scalpers, those who purchased the graphics card to sell for profit elsewhere. 

Now, RTX 3080 graphics cards have filled eBay’s listings, with many sellers asking for over £900 for Nvidia’s newest graphics card. This fact has left many gamers annoyed, having been denied the ability to purchase RTX 3080 graphics cards by scalpers who wish to profit from Nvidia’s RTX 3080’s supply shortfall. 

Thankfully, PC gamers are fighting back against eBay scalpers. PC gamers from across the world are inflating RTX 3080 prices with false bids that will never be paid. This action is designed to prevent scalpers from selling their RTX 3080 graphics cards, forcing them to sell at a later date when ample retail stock is available. This tactic will prevent scalpers from profiting from RTX 3080 shortages, and force them to sell when they can no longer profit from the sale. 

On the Geforce Forums, a user called skateordiedgk has created a bot which makes eBay accounts and puts “ridiculous bids” on RTX 3080 graphics cards, ensuring that no one will win and pay for the auction. In the US, some RTX 3080 graphics cards now have bids as high as $80,300, while eBay UK has seen bids as high as £4,200. 

Nvidia has assured us that they, and their hardware partners, have more RTX 3080 graphics cards which are currently shipping to retailers worldwide. Hopefully, this will allow Nvidia’s RTX 3080 to become more readily available to gamers. 

While we are no encouraging our readers to inflate these RTX 3080 eBay prices further, we must admit that it is satisfying to see these RTX 3080 scalpers receive their comeuppance.
