RTX 50 series VRAM mods incoming? Samsung 3GB GDDR7 modules are now available to purchase
48GB RTX 5090 mods are now possible thanks to the availability of 3GB GDDR7 memory modules on the open market
3GB GDDR7 memory modules are a game-changer for the GPU market. We have said this ever since they were first unveiled. While Nvidia has not used them widely on its RTX 50 series GPUs, these modules have sufficient availability to become accessible on the wholesale PC market. Videocardz has confirmed that Samsung 24Gb (3GB) GDDR7 memory modules are now available to consumers.
Thanks to this newfound availability, the door is now open for GPU modders to create customised GPUs with 3GB GDDR7 modules. 48GB RTX 5090 GPUs could be built, and so could 24GB RTX 5080 GPUs. 12GB RTX 5060 and 18GB RTX 5070 graphics cards could also be created. Yes, Nvidia could have made a 12GB RTX 5060, but the company simply chose not to do so.

Rumour has it that Nvidia plans to launch RTX 50 SUPER series GPUs with 3GB GDDR7 memory modules next year. This will make many RTX 50 series GPUs a lot more attractive to high-end gamers.
Nvidia already uses 3GB GDDR7 memory modules on its “Big Blackwell” Blackwell RTX PRO 6000 series GPUs.
The availability of Samsung 3GB GDDR7 modules to mainstream customers demonstrates that there is more than enough supply of this memory to meet Nvidia’s current needs. It is only a matter of time before Nvidia start using these memory chips for new GeForce products. Moving to 3GB GDDR7 memory alone would be enough to make a potential RTX 5060 SUPER (12GB) a killer product. Simply put, these memory chips are the future of Nvidia’s RTX 50 series.
