Samsung reveals ten 13.3-16 inch OLED screens for future laptops

2021 will be a big year for OLED adoption, with new consoles encouraging gamers to invest in high-end TVs as pricing for premium screens begins to drop. Samsung has confirmed that they plan to showcase 10 OLED laptop screens at CES 2021, embedding high-quality OLED screens into future notebooks, allowing more devices to benefit from the capabilities of OLED monitors.

With this announcement, Samsung has confirmed that a 1080p 15.6-inch OLED screen is in production, allowing OLED screens to be added to a wide range of notebook designs. OLED will not be limited to ultra-high-resolution devices, which is great news for more mainstream laptop users. Samsung plans to start mass-producing its OLED laptop screens in February, which means that we should see laptops with Samsung OLED screens within the next year.

Thanks to their screens’ 120% DCI-P3 colour space support, minimum brightness levels of 0.0005 cd/m² and 85% HDR coverage, Samsung’s OLED notebook panels promise to deliver their users an excellent viewing experience. Beyond that, Samsung has reportedly claimed that these OLED panels are 10x more responsive than conventional LCD screens, which could make these new mobile screens great for gamers, assuming that they also support high refresh rates.

Right now, Samsung has not revealed any laptops which will use these OLED panels, though these may be revealed as CES 2021 progresses.
