CES 2020 hasn’t started yet, but that hasn’t stopped Samsung from pre-revealing its Odyssey series of QLED gaming monitors, which come with the world’s first 1000R curved screens with 240Hz refresh rates.

What’s so special about 1000R curved displays? Research suggests that it is the optimal level of display curvature for productivity, closely matching the peripheral vision of humans at standard desk-to-face distances. With a 1000R curvature, this monitor is designed to be 1000mm away from the user’s face, which is ideal for most desk or office setups.

On the high-end, Samsung’s new Odyssey G9 monitor delivers users a huge 49-inch 5120×1440 (dual-wide 1440p) screen with a DisplayHDR 1000 rating and support for refresh rates up to 240Hz. This screen also offers users a response time of 1ms, and supports AMD’s FreeSync 2 technology while also being G-Sync Compatible.

With such a high resolution and refresh rate, Samsung’s Odyssey G9 must utilise DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 to maintain the screen’s required bandwidth levels.

At CES 2020, Samsung plans to showcase its 49-inch Odyssey G9 display alongside two G7 models, each of which boasts a resolution of 2560×1440 (1440p) and DisplayHDR 600 certification. Both G7 series screens also boast a 240Hz refresh rate and both FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility.

More details about these screens are due to be released at CES 2020. At this time the pricing of these screens is unknown, though they are unlikely to be cheap.
