Samsung’s Odyssey Windows Mixed Reality Headset will not be releasing in Europe

It has been confirmed that Samsung will not be releasing their Odyssey Windows Mixed Reality Headset in Europe, with the company giving no reason why European VR enthusiasts will be unable to purchase their headset.Â

This is a problem because while several manufacturers are making Windows 10 Mixed RealityÂ Headsets, Samsung;s offering offers higher-end specifications that their competitors with dual 1440×1600 OLED displays (most competitors use dual 1440×1440 LCD displays) and offers a wider 110-degree field of view (most competitors offer a 105-degree field of view).Â

These changes have made Samsung’s offering one of the most expensive Mixed Reality Headsets on the market, coming with a price tag of $499, which is higher than the Oculus Rift, which now costs $399/Â£399. Samsung’s Oddessy VR headset is $50 more expensive than the next most expensive Windows Mixed Reality Headset.Â

Samsung has also integrated microphones into the VR headset itself as well as a built-in AKG audio solution, which means that users will not need to use headphones alongside this device.Â

This new VR headset is set to start shipping in the US on November 8th. These headsets will require Microsoft’s Windows 10 Fall Creators Update to function properly.Â

The lack of a European release for this headset raises questions on whether or not Samsung isÂ confident in their new product, especially after Oculus’ permanent price reduction for their Rift+Touch headset bundles.Â
