Ubisoft Reports Higher PC Preorders for The Division 2 Despite Skipping Steam
Despite lacking a Steam version, Ubisoft has reported that The Division 2 has a higher pre-order count than the original game on the PC platform, showcasing that PC gamers are more than willing to purchase the game outside of Valve’s Steam platform.Â
Moving The Division 2 away from Steam was also a great financial mode from Ubisoft, as the Epic Games Store promises to deliver Ubisoft a larger cut of their game’s sales revenue than Steam, and Ubisoft’s own Uplay storefront will provide the company with all of the profits from their game sales. If anything, the hatred some gamers feel towards Epic will push more gamers towards Uplay, which is the storefront where Ubisoft will no doubt yield the most profits from per sale.Â
During the company’s latest earnings call, CEOÂ Yves Guillemot stated that the publisher believes that they can make more money outside of Steam, a strategy that seems to be proving effective so far. Below is a statement from Yves Guillemot.Â
  There is a growing number of distribution platforms fighting for great content. With this deal, we saw an opportunity to increase player’s exposure to our own store, while at the same time supporting a partner that greatly values our games and provides materially better terms.Â

Ubisoft’s The Division 2 is set to release on March 15th, with Guillemot believing that the game “has all it takes to be a bigger seller” than the Division 1 over the game’s lifetime.Â
