HTC rumored to spin off VR division into separate company

HTC is rumored be to spinning off their HTC Vive VR division into separate company in order to keep it unaffected by their declining mobile phone sales.

The HTC Vive is currently being seen as the VR headset that has the technological lead, having a more capable head tracking system than the Oculus Rift, shipping with motion controllers and having a front facing camera which allows VR users to see and interact with real world objects without needing to take off their headset.

In the wake of these VR spin off rumors HTC’s share price has gained 5.3%, showing that a lot of people in the industry see this as a good decision for the company.

With the HTC Vive’s technological advantages over the Oculus Rift and the backing of Valve a lot of people see it as the winner of this first round of the VR wars, but with a price still unannounced it is hard to tell exactly how well it will be adopted and perceived by consumers.

The HTC Vive will open for Pre-orders on February 29th and will ship in March 2016.
