The console version of the Division will have a PC like graphical options menu, allowing console gamers to choose between better lighting or a higher framerate.

While the framerates of the better lighting modes and the higher framerate modes have not been defined, it is expected that the mode with higher fidelity shadows will run at 30FPS and the higher framerate mode will run at 60FPS.

It’s actually great that we’ve given the option to disable certain lighting aspects to improve frame rate in the console version, which I don’t know if any other game does that. So if you want to choose frame rate over, like, visuals you can if you want.

The idea of a graphical options menu in a console game is not new, with the PS4 version of Final Fantasy 14 having both 1080p and 720p modes to allow users to choose the framerate they desire, an option that is very useful in a MMO where a very large number of characters can be on screen at one.

One other example of a game that has multiple framerate modes is the PS4 version of The Last of Us, which could be set to a locked 30FPS or an unlocked framerate of 60FPS which had lower quality shadows and the occasional FPS dips.

With The Division it is great to see Ubisoft give console gamers some performance options, as in an online shooter a higher more responsive game could be very useful to players, especially when playing the game at a high skill level. Hopefully we will be seeing more options like this in games in the future.
