Corsair DDR5 spotted with Chinese CXMT memory chips
Corsair has started using CXMT memory for its Vengeance DDR5 memory modules
The global DRAM shortage has caused module manufacturers to utilise all potential sources of memory chips. Corsair, as uncovered by WXNOD, has been spotted using DDR5 memory chips from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), a Chinese memory manufacturer.
Last year, CXMT showcased DDR5-8000 memory modules. Now their chips have been spotted inside 16GB Corsair DDR5-6000 CL36-40-40-96 (1.35V) modules. Typically, Corsair’s memory modules use memory chips from manufacturers outside of China, such as SK Hynix, Samsung, or Micron.

It is worth noting that this newly uncovered memory module uses the CMK5X16G3E60C36A2-CN product number. The CN likely refers to the Chinese origin of the DRAM chips in this module. These modules also appear to feature AMD EXPO and Intel XMP profiles.
It is possible that the CN in the product name of these modules could help Corsair target these DRAM modules at specific markets. These modules could be China-specific. Regardless, using CXMT memory chips will help Corsair supply more DRAM modules to its customers, alleviating shortages. Even if these modules are China-only, they free up memory modules that can be used elsewhere.

A win for Chinese memory
If nothing else, the appearance of CXMT memory inside Corsair DRAM modules proves that Chinese DRAM is no longer an underdog. Corsair is one of the world’s largest memory brands, and its use of CXMT memory demonstrates that its DRAM is suitable for broad market adoption. That wasn’t the case a few years ago.
Chinese memory manufacturers are benefiting greatly from the world’s DRAM shortage. More and more companies are considering Chinese DRAM and NAND. If brands start using this memory during today’s shortages, they are unlikely to stop if normal market conditions resume. That’s bad news for the world’s leading memory providers. That said, most consumers won’t complain about the increased competition. Anything that can reduce the price of memory is a good thing.
