Apple to drop Intel CPU support with MacOS 27
Apple’s MacOS 27 will be Apple Silicon Only – claims leaker
Apple’s next version of MacOS, MacOS 27, will reportedly launch without support for older Intel-based Macs. This makes the new version of MacOS the first to support only Apple Silicon devices, completing Apple’s transition to its own processors.
MacOS 26 “Tahoe” will be the last to support Intel-based Macs. This includes devices like the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro, the 2020 iMac, the 2019 Mac Pro, and the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro.
Apple’s next version of macOS is expected to support M1 and newer Macs. However, this has not been confirmed. That said, it would be strange for Apple to abandon its early Apple Silicon devices. Doing so would not be good for Apple, as Apple only discontinued its first M1 series MacBook Air in March 2024. Abandoning the product two years later would not be a good look for Apple.

We expect Apple to announce at WWDC 2026 that it has fully transitioned to Apple Silicon. This is a huge success for Apple, as moving to its own processors was initially seen as a gamble. Apple has just successfully transitioned, but its CPUs are seen as some of the best consumer-grade CPUs in the world.
