ASUS upgrades its ROG Xbox Ally with its new “X20” model

ASUS has upgraded its ROG Xbox Ally for ROG’s 20th Anniversary

At Computex 2026, ASUS has unveiled its ROG XBOX Ally X20 Bundle, which combines an upgraded “X20” version of its ROG Xbox Ally with a pair of XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses. For many, this pairing is a match made in heaven, as it allows gamers to play on the go with a large 177-inch virtual screen.

The highlight of this bundle is the ROG XBOX Ally X20, which has been upgraded with an “ROG Nebula HDR” OLED screen. Not only is this screen larger than the standard ROG Xbox Ally at 7.4 inches (vs the 7-inch standard model), but it’s also brighter. Add on the other benefits of OLED, like improved motion clarity, and it’s easy to see why this is considered a big upgrade. Additionally, ASUS has added TMR joysticks to the handheld, eliminating stick drift and similar potential problems.

At its core, the ROG Xbox Ally X20’s hardware is the same as a normal ROG XBOX Ally X. It has an AMD Ryzen Z2 AI Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, and an 80Whr battery. That said, the upgrade to a larger OLED screen is significant. The device also has an ASUS Edition 20 aesthetic. The device now has a translucent black chassis and some gold elements. This gives the handheld a modern retro aesthetic.

This upgraded ROG Xbox Ally is bundled with XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses

If you want to buy the ROG XBOX Ally X20 on its own, you can’t. It can only be purchased with ASUS’ ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses.

These glasses can connect to the ROG Xbox Ally using USB Type-C and act as an external 177-inch virtual Micro OLED display. The standard version of these glasses only recently became available for pre-order in the UK for £749. These Edition 20 AR glasses appear to be identical to their standard ROG counterparts, albeit with some gold design elements.

Honestly, I think it is a shame that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 isn’t a standalone product. Its hardware improvements are notable. Additionally, its forced bundle with ASUS’ ROG XREAL R1 will make the combo extremely expensive. Yes, they are great devices when used together. Regardless, this traps the ROG Xbox Ally X20’s hardware improvements to a small number of potential users, which is unfortunate.
