Capcom’s new Resident Evil movie receives its first official trailer

Resident Evil’s getting a new live-action film

The Resident Evil series is incredible, at least when it comes to video games. When it comes to movies, especially live-action ones, the series is very hit-or-miss. This year, a new live-action Resident Evil movie is in the works, directed by Zach Cregger, the director of the critically acclaimed horror movie Weapons.

Zach Cregger’s movie is a new filmic reboot for the series, which claims to be the start of “a new era of evil”. Based on the film’s newly released trailer, the movie will be darker and more atmospheric than the franchise’s successful 2000s movies. The movie will feature its own unique characters and storyline. The director claims that his film “leaves everything [fans] love intact from the games.” The movie is reportedly canon, but Cregger’s “not gonna steal Leon and put him in an original story.”

From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.

This new Resident Evil movie is coming to Cinemas on September 18th 2026. Based on the trailer, this movie is showing some promise. The trailer gives the impression that the movie will play out like many of the games. The horror seems small-scale initially, but quickly descends into something more nightmarish. The trailer starts with the main character at a small, isolated home, but moves into a town, or perhaps a city-scale outbreak.
