Dell Finally Kills Off Axim

On a slightly sadder note, it appears that Dell has decided to discontinue its Axim range of PDA’s .

The Axim Pocket PC first appeared in 2002. It was designed as a cheap handheld in a market where they set you back a few hundred dollars. Dell added features such as Bluetooth and wi-fi wireless technologies and released its most recent model, the X51, in 2005.

The decision appears to have been based upon the gradual decline in popularity of personal organisers. Smart phones, have seen an increase in popularity of late simply because they allow the features reminiscent of PDA’s, whilst combining the power of telephony.

It’s a sad day
