Ebuyer has entered administration
Ebuyer, one of the UK’s biggest PC retailers, has gone into administration
Last week, we reported on Ebuyer’s financial woes. This morning, we have confirmed that the company has entered administration. Based on comments from staff on social media, “a lot of good people were let go today.”
Ebuyer has been in the PC retail business for 26 years, and at the start of this month, a “Winding Up Petition” was made against the company. Urban Logistics Acquisitions 6 Limited, the owners of Ebuyer’s building, sent this application due to unpaid debts.
Grant Bennett, a former software developer at Ebuyer, confirmed that the company entered administration this morning. “Administration” is a legal process where an appointed administrator attempts to rescue a business that is insolvent, or achieve a better return for creditors than would be likely if a company were “wound up.” More details about this process are available here (Via Companies House UK).

Will Ebuyer be revived?
As of now, Ebuyer’s original website has been shut down. Orders cannot be made for PCs or components, and old links to the website will not work.
The Ebuyer website now links to another retailer called Studio. The Frasers Group owns this retailer. The Frasers Group owns brands like Sports Direct, House of Fraser, GAME, Jack Wills, and more. Based on information that’s currently available, the Frasers Group plans to rescue the Ebuyer brand.
If the current state of Ebuyer’s website is anything to go by, my guess is that the company will be revived with a new website. This will remove the limitations of Ebuyer’s old systems from its new incarnation. This website will likely use the same template as Studio.
Ebuyer isn’t the only UK PC retailer to go into administration in recent years
Today’s news comes less than two years after BOX, another UK PC retailer, closed down. While BOX has since relaunched under new ownership, the original company’s closure highlights the challenges facing digital retailers. Demand for PC components has slowed since the end of the COVID pandemic, creating a tough market for retailers.
With Ebuyer entering administration, the UK’s PC components market will have lost one of its largest players. Ebuyer sells full PCs, individual components, accessories, and more. The loss of Ebuyer would have a huge impact on the UK’s PC market. While the company may return under the Frasers Group, it will not be the same Ebuyer as before. It remains to be seen if the Frasers Group’s reincarnated Ebuyer will be successful.
