Noctua releases 3D fan models for CAD users and renderers

Noctua releases 3D CAD models for most of its products

Noctua has released official 3D CAD models for many of its products, enabling CAD users and animators to incorporate Noctua products into their designs and renders. These models are free to download for many Noctua products and are available as STEP files.

These files are incredibly useful for anyone who wants to design custom fan mounts or PC cases. If nothing else, it means that they no longer need to model their own fan. It also allows them to visualise their models with Noctua fans included.

You wouldn’t 3D print a Noctua?

What’s worth noting about these 3D models is that they are not an exact copy of Noctua’s designs. They are visually similar and accurately represent their mounting dimensions. However, these models have been modified to protect Noctua’s intellectual property. This means that these models can’t be used to 3D print or otherwise copy Noctua’s fan blade designs. This also makes these models useless for fan performance simulations. These models are for visual purposes only and will help modellers ensure that their fans can mount on their 3D designs.

We offer 3D CAD models of many Noctua products via the download section of our website.

These public 3D CAD models accurately represent mounting dimensions as well as the overall external dimensions of the product. To protect our intellectual property, certain features – such as fan impeller geometries – have been slightly modified while remaining visually very close to the actual product.

Accordingly, these models are well-suited for integrating our products into your own CAD designs, as well as for creating renderings, animations, and other visual outputs. However, please do not use these models for performance simulations and note that components, such as fan impellers and internal frame structures, are not fully representative of the actual product.

Noctua

These 3D models are incredibly useful. Noctua fans are commonly used in custom/non-PC situations, and often require custom fan mounts. This is exactly what Noctua’s “HOME” product line (review here) is for. It is also useful for 3D printing enthusiasts who may want to 3D print their own PC case or other products that could utilise Noctua fans for active cooling.

All in all, these product models are very useful for the PC hardware community. Props to Noctua for releasing these models, as this effort isn’t likely to result in direct profit for them.
