Nvidia to resume sales of H20 GPUs to China after successful meeting with President Trump
Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, has convinced Donald Trump to lift the US’ China export restrictions for its H20 AI GPUs
Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, has been busy promoting AI in both the US and China, achieving tremendous success in a recent meeting with US President Donald Trump. Nvidia has managed to convince US lawmakers to lift export restrictions on the company’s H20 Hopper GPUs, allowing the company to resume shipments to China.
The US banned Nvidia’s export of H20 AI chips to China in April. Now, Nvidia has been assured that export licenses will be granted to the company for these GPUs. With Nvidia resuming shipments to China, the company is now expected to generate billions in sales. Previously, Nvidia claimed that export restrictions had forced the company to write off approximately $5.5 billion in inventory and significantly lower its sales projections. Now, Nvidia can once gains exploit China’s demand for AI hardware.
Huang also provided an update to customers, noting that NVIDIA is filing applications to sell the NVIDIA H20 GPU again. The U.S. government has assured NVIDIA that licenses will be granted, and NVIDIA hopes to start deliveries soon. Finally, Huang announced a new, fully compliant NVIDIA RTX PRO GPU that “is ideal for digital twin AI for smart factories and logistics.”

With H20 sales to China resuming, Nvidia’s successfully restarted its Chinese money printer. Nvidia has argued that allowing shipments to China will lessen demand for China’s home-grown AI hardware. If that is the case, this deal weakens China’s overall semiconductor industry. However, it accelerates China’s AI research and adoption. Whether or not this is good or bad for the US remains to be seen.
Nvidia’s going to make a lot of money from this deal. That’s a certainty.
