ASUS unveils revolutionary “ROG Equalizer” 12V-2×6 power cable
ASUS has unveiled its ROG Equalizer, the cable that might finally make 12V-2×6 safe
ASUS has officially unveiled its ROG Equalizer 12V-2×6 power cable, a new GPU power cable that will soon ship with ASUS’ ROG Thor III and ROG Strix Platinum power supplies. Team ROG also confirmed that this cable is “compatible with PSUs from leading manufacturers”, implying that this cable might also see a standalone release.
What’s special about this cable is that it is beefy (with a rated current capacity of 17A per cable), and it features automatic load balancing. Note that standard 12V-2×6 cables are rated at 9.2A per cable.
With automatic load balancing, ASUS’ ROG Equaliser cable ensures that power delivery is balanced and that certain cables do not take an overly large amount of load. This prevents localised heat buildup within this 12V-2×6 power connector, protecting your GPU, PSU, and power cable.
ROG Equalizer redefines power protection with balanced current for a cooler, more stable graphics card.

Forced equality
As part of an extreme test, ASUS removed the four middle wires of a 12V-2×6 PCIe power cable and compared how the ROG Equalizer performed against a standard 12V-2×6 power connector. The ROG Equalizer was able to distribute the load across all available cables, while the standard cable was forced to place the entire load across the cable’s two remaining pins.
ASUS’ goal with this cable is to deliver something that far exceeds that standard 12V-2×6 specification. They also created a solution to the well-known 12V-2×6 cable/GPU melting problem. If the load is balanced, heat buildup doesn’t occur. No heat, no melted or burnt GPUs.
For an added layer of protection, users can enable ROG Equalizer mode in ASU GPU Tweak III. This enables real-time monitoring alongside the cable’s hardware-level safeguards. This delivers an extra layer of protection for users.
ASUS has also given its custom 12V-2×6 connector gold-plated spring contacts on the GPU side. This gives each pin an increased contact area with GPU power pins, reducing contact resistance. This improves connector durability when used repeatedly.
Overall, this is a very useful power cable. If you are in any way concerned about 12V-2×6 cable incidents, this cable is for you. ASUS has not unveiled the release date of their 12V-2×6 connector, though we expect it to launch soon.
