Corsair teases 600W GPUs with their “Next Gen” support page

Corsair preps for the next generation of PC graphics with power and cooling recommendations

Ahead of Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 50 series reveal, Corsair has created a “Next Gen” landing page. This page will give PC builders advice on how to build a next-generation gaming system. Corsair stated, “next-gen GPUs could use up to 600W of power and dump all that heat right back into your case.” With this in mind, PC builders need power supplies, cases, and cooling solutions that can handle that level of heat output.

The PC market has changed a lot over the years. GPUs are much more power-hungry than they were. Nvidia’s GTX 1080 Ti, released in 2017, has a TDP of 250W. Nvidia’s next-gen flagship, the RTX 5090, is rumoured to have a TDP as high as 600 watts. That increase in heat output has revolutionised the PC case market, creating a need for more case airflow.

Corsair’s webpage also states that next-gen GPUs will use 12V-2×6 power connectors. These connectors are available with the company’s latest power supplies.

Corsair’s “Next-Gen” landing page is a simple marketing exercise but presents some good information. Modern PC case designs are made with airflow in mind, making them better suited to modern GPUs than their older counterparts. If you’re going to put a high-wattage GPU inside your PC, you had better make sure that your PC case has a lot of airflow.
