AMD “Fluid Motion Frames 3” spotted in new driver update
It looks like AMD’s preparing to release next-generation driver-level frame generation
Members of the Guru of 3D Forums (via @harukaze5719) have spotted references to “AFMF 3” and “FrameGenV3” in AMD’s drivers. This implies that AMD is getting ready to release a 3rd generation version of its Fluid Motion Frames driver-level frame generation technology. AMD Fluid Motion Frames 3 is in the works!
AMD released AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 in September 2024 and Fluid Motion Frames 2.1 in February 2025. These features allow players of DirectX 11, DirectX 12, Vulkan, and OpenGL games to utilise Frame Generation without official game support. Version 2 of the technology reduced latency, delivered better performance, and delivered more settings options. Version 2.1 further increased image quality with reduced ghosting, fine detail restoration, and better overlay handling.
Currently, it is unknown what improvements AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames 3 tech will deliver. Will it be RDNA 4 exclusive and utilise AI? Will it deliver further performance or quality improvements? Based on its version 3 naming, we expect more upgrades than what version 2.1 delivered. That said, version 2.1 did deliver a major image quality boost.

It’s worth noting that AMD is planning to release a new “ML Model” for Frame Generation with FSR 4 “Redstone”. Could AMD Fluid Motion Frames 3 be based on this technology? I guess we will find out soon, as AMD plans to launch FSR 4 Redstone later this year.
