AMD launches a beta chipset driver to solve Ryzen 3rd Gen’s Destiny 2 woes
In response to some of the issues that AMD socket AM4 users are facing, AMD’s Robert Hallock has released an update which details what’s being done to support Ryzen users. Included in this update is an update on Destiny 2’s playability.Â
In his post, Hallock confirms that AMD has a beta chipset driver update which includes a fix for Destiny 2’s Ryzen 3rd Generation issues, releasing a link for an official download of the driver for external testing. This driver contains a workaround which allows Destiny 2 to run on affected systems, though it is worth noting that this isn’t an official driver release.Â

  Concerning Destiny 2, this is indeed something we caught after launch. Plain and simple: I’m sorry. It is not a title that is in our standard test suite, as it’s difficult to reliably benchmark. When we caught it, we sent out a proactive statement to our global press list, about 700 members, resulting in coverage like this. We also collaborated with Bungie support staff to root cause the issue and communicate with their customer support team to let users know what’s up.

Going back to the topic of Destiny 2, I’m hoping you can help me test a workaround driver that should get you into the game. This is a beta chipset driver, and it may give you an installer warning or two if you’re upgrading an existing driver, but I believe this should work around the D2 launch issue. Many of the issues surrounding AMD’s launch of Ryzen 3rd Gen stems from the company’s long-running support of their AM4 socket. BIOS support needs to be extended to a multitude of older motherboards, placing a lot of stress on the BIOS teams at every major motherboard supplier. Beyond that, many Ryzen 3rd Gen purchasers have purchased incompatible AM4 motherboards, which require BIOS updates to enable drop-in support for Zen 2/Ryzen 3rd Generation processors.Â
