Assassin’s Creed: Origins is a return to form for the franchise, offering gameplay that is distinctly different from other titles in the series while also providing a welcome change of pace from the often repetitive nature of some of the latest iterations of the series.

It now seems like Ubisoft doesn’t want to fall into the same pitfall as last time, with Liam Roberts from Comicbook reporting that the series will return in Fall 2019, a welcome change from Ubisoft’s yearly model for the pre-Origins Assassin’s Creed series. The development of the next Assassin’s Creed is rumoured to have started in early 2017, targeting PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.

This development date coincides with the pre-launch of the Nintendo Switch, where many dismissed the new home/mobile console hybrid as too weak when compared to other modern consoles. It is possible that Ubisoft has reconsidered the possibility of a Nintendo Switch version, given the console’s success, though the hardware differences and lower specifications of Nintendo’s hardware will undoubtedly require a lot of sacrifices.

The next Assassin’s Creed game is rumoured to be set in Ancient Greece, coinciding with early reports about Origins which said that it would be part of a potential trilogy known as “Empire”, which would visit Egypt, Rome and Greece.

Fans of the series will find the change to a 2-year release cycle welcome, giving developers more time to focus on each game in the series and act on feedback before the release of their next game.

A late 2019 release suggests that there will be no new Assassin’s Creed games at E3 2018, though it is possible that new DLC or Switch ports of older AC titles could be announced at the event.
