Australians will soon need to pay a 10% VAT on Steam

Australians will soon need to pay a 10% VAT (technically GST, Goods and Services Tax) on Steam, despite the fact that the storefront still does not offer an AUD currency option.

This new tax is expected to be applied to all products on Steam, though it is possible that some companies will decide to absorb this tax themselves to maintain their original pricing.

Many hope that this Australia exclusive tax will also come with the introduction of an AUD currency/payment options on the platform, with Valve currently planning to add this tax in June of this year.

Several other countries like New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Iceland, South Africa and India will also pay region-specific taxes on Steam, with plans to introduce these taxes in March.
