Baldur’s Gate 3 receives finalised PC system requirements ahead of launch
Baldur’s Gate 3 finalised PC system requirements are here, and they are a lot lower than expected
Baldur’s gate 3 is due to release on August 3rd, a huge RPG that is based in the Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign setting. The game itself is based on Dungeons and Dragons’ 5th Edition, and it promises incredible visuals, online-co-op support, and a huge level of character customisation.Â
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the newest RPG from Larain Studios, the creators of Divinity: Original Sin II. The game has been created using the company’s new Divinity Engine 4.0, and the good news is that the game’s hardware requirements are a lot lower than we expected.Â
When the game was revealed, Baldur’s Gate 3 was marketed as a “next-generation RPG”, and that meant that the game was never going to release on the then current-generation consoles, Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Originally, the game was revealed for PC and Google Stadia, which the Stadia version being abandoned after Google decided to axe their game streaming service. Now the game is also due to launch on PS5, and Xbox Series consoles, with the PS5 version launching on September 6th while the Xbox version has no firm release timeframe.
On Steam, Larain Studios have released the following PC system requirements for Baldur’s Gate 3, none of which are overly high by today’s standards. The game appears to utilise the DirectX 11 API, which means that gamers should not expect Baldur’s Gate 3 to support ray tracing on PC. SSD storage has been listed as a requirement for the game, and graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM are recommended. Â
MINIMUM:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Processor: Intel I5 4690 / AMD FX 8350
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 / RX 480 (4GB of VRAM)
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 150 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD required
RECOMMENDED:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Processor: Intel i7 8700K / AMD r5 3600
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia 2060 Super / RX 5700 XT (8GB of VRAM)
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 150 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD required
At a minimum, PC gamers are expected to own a graphics card that features at least 4GB of VRAM, like a Radeon RX 480 4GB or an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970. At this time we do not know what resolution or framerate this level of hardware will target, though it is possible that Larain Studios will give us more detailed information over the next few weeks.
CPU-wise, Intel’s i7-8700K and AMD’s Ryzen 5 3600 are recommended, both of which are six core processors with twelve threads. On the low-end, AMD’s RX 8350 and Intel’s i5-4690 are recommended, neither of which are considered powerful by today’s standards.
The good news for PC gamers is that most PC gamers should be able to run Baldur’s Gate 3 with their current hardware configurations, assuming that their systems are less than five years of and were considered mid-range of better when they were built. Remember, AMD’s RX 480 is a graphics card from 2016, and the game’s recommended GPU, the Radeon RX 5700 XT is from 2019.
