Bandai Namco reveals Dark Souls Remastered’s PC system requirements and pricing

Bandai Namco has confirmed that existing PC owners of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will be able to purchase Dark Souls Remastered at a discounted price when it releases on May 25th.

According to Dark Souls’ Japanese website, PC gamers will get a 50% discount for the remaster, allowing Dark Souls fans on PC to purchase the game at half of its standard price.

The original PC release of Dark Souls was catastrophic, capping the game at 30FPS with a lock 1024×720 (sub-720p) resolution and no rebindable controls. While these issues have been fixed by modders, most notably by Durante’s DSFix, the game never ran flawlessly, with 60FPS mods introducing additional problems into the game.

Dark Soul’s Remaster will feature support for 60FPS framerates and 4K resolutions without the need for mods/fixes. Both PS4 Pro and Xbox One will support upscaled 4K resolutions, with PC being the only platform capable of a locked 4K resolution or higher.

The Dark Souls Japan website has also released the following PC system requirements for the title, shipping with much higher CPU and GPU requirements for the game.

The original Dark Souls required a dual-core CPU with a Geforce 9800GTX or higher, whereas the Dark Souls Remastered runs with a minimum of an Intel i5 quad-core, a GTX 460 graphics card and over two times as much system storage. These requirements remain low by today’s standards, even if they are a significant leap over the original.
